『だっこしてなでて』について

題名の「だっこしてなでて」は完成してから決めました。それは猫を「だっこ」しているように感じたからです。昭和初期の頃のこけしは子供が背負って遊んだりしていました。この原点に戻り棚に飾られるよりも遊べるものにしたいとの想いが普段からありました。僕がこの大きさのこけしをつくるのは初めてですが、上手くできたなと思っています。絵付けにおいては、猫が眠る姿は平和の象徴であると言われるのが日光の「眠り猫」、このことを知り、世界平和を願って眠れる顔を描きました。黒猫は起きていますが福猫で魔除けの象徴でもあります。胴体には絵付けをしていません。特別な塗料を使って猫の被毛を木目で演出しています。木肌を守る油性の自然塗料ですから舐めても大丈夫です。色落ちなど気にしないでいっぱい「なでて」あげてください。

制作の経緯・・・・・・

製作を開始するにあたり、犬形こけし人形を開発したときのように、猫の形そのものから見直しました。これは新型こけしです。その定義は「量産可能で市場性があるもの」とあるので、頭と胴体を分けてつくりました。一方で耳はこだわりました。左右同じ形だったものを現代的なデザイン性を優先。さらに取り付け位置や向きを微妙に変えて個性を持たせています。量産性には疑問がありますが、ゆこけし研究所独自の形にしました。

彩色には水に強い水性ペンと油性ペンを使っています。細かに表現するのに適しているからです。もっとも細いペンは0.03mmです。描いていくうちにあと0.1mm太くしたい、グラデーションをつけたいと思うことがあり、拡大鏡を通して見て絵付けをします。猫の表情は多様です。眠っているときの猫の目の形もいろいろで、ネットに出ている写真や動画だけでなく、大和絵や漫画・アニメからもインスピレーションをもらっています。こけしの命はやはり「目」ですね。だから他はあえて思い切って描かないことにしました。楽しんでいただけたら幸いです。

“DakkoshiteNadete（Cuddle and Stroke）” I decided on this title after it was completed. That's because it felt like I was cuddling a cat. In the early 1900s, children played with kokeshi dolls by carrying them on their backs. I have always wanted to go back to this basics and make something that can be played with rather than displayed on a shelf. This is my first time making a large kokeshi doll, but I think it turned out well.
The design originates from the ``Nemuri Neko`` of Nikko, a world heritage site, which is said to be a symbol of peace. I drew a sleeping face wishing for world peace. Although the black cat is awake, it is a lucky cat and is also a symbol of protection from evil spirits. There is no painting on the body. A special paint is used to create a wood grain effect on the cat's coat. It is a natural oil-based paint that protects the wood surface, so it is safe to lick. Please pat it as much as possible without worrying about the color fading.

Production history...

When I started production, I reconsidered the shape of the cat itself, just like when I developed the dog-shaped kokeshi doll. This is a new type of kokeshi. The definition is "something that can be mass-produced and is marketable," so I made the head and body separately. On the other hand, I was particular about the ears. The left and right sides had the same shape, but I prioritized a modern design. Furthermore, I subtly change the mounting position and orientation to give it individuality. Although there are doubts about mass production, the Ucoqueshi Works Studio has created a unique shape.

For coloring, I use water-resistant pens and oil-based pens. This is because it is suitable for expressing details. The thinnest pen is 0.03mm. As I draw, I sometimes find myself wanting to make it 0.1mm thicker or add a gradation, so I look through a magnifying glass and paint. Cats have a variety of facial expressions. There are many different shapes of cats' eyes when they sleep, and I get inspiration not only from photos and videos on the internet, but also from Yamato-e, manga, and anime. The life of a kokeshi doll is its eyes. So I decided not to draw anything else. I hope you enjoy it.
