『なでてミニ』　制作の想い

僕は「新型こけし」を「他者から受けとる新鮮な美の表出」と定義してみました。他者とは、お客様であり、他のこけし工人であり、漫画、アニメ、絵本など、いろいろな出会いを差します。自分の感性と他者の感性のぶつかり合いから新鮮な美が生まれ出て、これを今の時代に合うように表現できるのが「新型こけし」であると考えたのです。これこそが持ち味であり、大事にしたいと考えています。
『だっこしてなでて』を求めやすい価格にしたのが『なでてミニ』の立ち位置になります。サイズが小さくても質感が感じられるように作っています。描彩に凝りすぎると こけしらしさ が薄れてしまうため、『だっこしてなでて』同様に最小限の描彩にしつつ、現代らしさを表すべく「立体パーツ」を加えました。頭と胴というこれまでの特有の記号化されたこけし形状とは違うものになることを意識しています。有名なこけし工人であれば、そのネームバリューから　「これもこけし」と分かってもらえるでしょう。でもまだ良く知られていない僕は、受賞した『だっこしてなでて』がベースとなるこの『なでてミニ』こそが、僕の新型こけしの本当の実力が試されている作品であると考えて取り組みました。

なお、昨年の作品よりサイズを一回り大きくして、幼児が誤って口にしても呑み込めないようにしました。これは最近になって、３歳未満を対象に国が制定した玩具の安全基準を参考にしています。表だって気づかれないところではりますが、少しでも良いものを届けたいと、研究した結果のひとつです。

まだまだ、序章の作品に過ぎませんが楽しんでもらえたら嬉しいです。

"Nadete Mini" - Thoughts on the Creation

I define "New Kokeshi" as "the expression of fresh beauty received from others." These others include customers, other kokeshi craftsmen, manga, anime, picture books, and various other encounters. Fresh beauty emerges from the clash of one's own sensibilities with those of others, and I believe that "New Kokeshi" is the ability to express this in a way that suits the current era. This is its unique quality, and I intend to cherish it.

"Nadete Mini" is positioned as an affordable version of "Hold Me and Hold Me and Hold Me." It is designed to allow texture to be felt even in its small size. Because excessive coloring can diminish the kokeshi's authenticity, I used minimal coloring, like "Hold Me and Hold Me and Hold Me," while adding "three-dimensional parts" to express a modern feel. I was conscious of creating something different from the traditional, symbolic kokeshi shape of a head and torso. If I'm a famous kokeshi craftsman, people will know that this is a kokeshi just because of my name value. But I'm not yet well known, so I worked on "Nadete Mini," which is based on my award-winning "Hold Me and Pet Me," believing that it would be a piece that would truly test the capabilities of my new type of kokeshi.

I also made it a size larger than last year's work to make it less likely for a young child to accidentally swallow it. This is based on the recent national safety standards for toys for children under the age of three. It may not be obvious, but it is one result of my research, as I want to deliver something that is even slightly better.

This is still just the beginning, but I hope you enjoy it.
