めんこいなはもっとかくれんぼうがうまくなりたいなと思いました。
でも、白いしっぽがあるのでいつも見つかってしまうのです。
なんでしっぽだけ白いのかな。
かあさんに聞いてもわかりません。
おばあさんに聞いてもわかりません。
白いしっぽのともだちに聞いてもわかりません。
わからなくても聞いたみんなに言います。
「あ・り・が・と・う」
めんこいなはどうしても知りたくなって聞いて回りました。
ときには枯れた木にまで聞きました。
どんどん聞いて回るうちに遠くまで来てしまいました。
とうとう深い森の北の端まで来てしまいました。
暗くなって疲れためんこいなは寝てしまいました。
「今日もいちにちお疲れ様でした」
Menkoina wanted to become better at hide-and-seek.
But she is always found because of her white tail.
Why is the tail white?
She doesn't know even if she asks her mother.
She doesn't know even if she asks her grandmother.
She doesn't know when she asks her white-tailed friend.
To everyone she hears she says
"Ah-ri-ga-tou (thank you)"
Menkoina went around asking why.
Because she really wants to know.
Sometimes she even listened to dead trees.
As she listened more and more, she came farther and farther.
At last she came to the northern edge of the deep forest.
It got dark and Menkoina was tired and fell asleep.
"Thank you for your hard work today."
