昨年の後半から、僕が作るこけしを「動物のこけし」に特化することにしました。なぜならば、お客様それぞれに好きな動物がいて、それも一風変わった動物を描き分ける楽しさを知ったからです。その期待に応えようとして、もがいていたら、動物の個性をストレートに表現する力量が僕にはありそうだと気づいたことも、後押しになりました。モチーフである「猫」だけでなくて、多様な動物にチャレンジしています。

　どれもリアルさを追求しているので、一点ものとしての価値を付けたくなり、第３部の「創作こけし」としての作品に仕上げています。僕なりに「創作こけし」を「自己の中にある直感の美の発露」と定義をしてみました。自分自身の中から湧いてくる創作の意欲をコントロールする楽しさは作家の醍醐味であると思います。日本人としてのアイデンティティとして「こけし」を捉えながらも、今様の描彩方法を用いればドラマチックに変わっていくのかもしれないとの予感を感じながら製作しました。

　その創作意欲を示そうと思って、たとえこけしは小さくとも、その存在感を高めるために立体パーツを付けることにしました。できるだけリアルに、でもこけし特有のデフォルメらしさをきちんと持たせたつもりです。立体パーツの材料はすべて木材を使うことにこだわっています。

「ボーダーコリ」「ビークル」「キャバリア・キング・チャールズ・スパニエル」これらの犬に共通しているのは垂れ耳です。色見の違いを描き分ける技量も示したくて、この３種を選びました。
「黒猫ディープブラック」は、白色よりも人気のある毛色の猫をイラスト風に描彩。
「キウイ」は、こけしに合う体型ですが、日本では大阪の動物園にしかいません。
「チベットスナギツネ」「ハシビロコウ」は、そのとってもユニークな姿が好き、と言う方々からリクエストがありチャレンジしました。
いずれも、誰からも教わっていない僕オリジナルの描き方で作りました。

Since the latter half of last year, I have decided to specialize in making "animal kokeshi". This is because each customer has their favorite animal, and I discovered the fun of drawing unique animals. As I struggled to meet their expectations, I realized that I might have the ability to directly express the individuality of animals, which gave me the encouragement to do so. I am challenging myself with a variety of animals, not just the motif of "cats".
Since I am pursuing realism in all of them, I wanted to add value as a unique item, and I have finished them as works in the third part, "creative kokeshi". In my own way, I have tried to define "creative kokeshi" as "the expression of the beauty of intuition within oneself". I think the joy of controlling the creative motivation that wells up from within oneself is the best part of being an artist. While I perceive "kokeshi" as an identity as a Japanese person, I created it with a hunch that it might change dramatically if I used modern painting methods.
In order to show my creative motivation, I decided to add three-dimensional parts to the kokeshi, even though it is small, to enhance its presence. I tried to make it as realistic as possible, while still retaining the deformation-like quality that is unique to kokeshi dolls. I insisted on using wood as the material for all the 3D parts.

"Border Collie", "Beagle", and "Cavalier King Charles Spaniel" - what these dogs have in common is droopy ears. I chose these three types of dogs because I wanted to show my skill in drawing different colors.
"Deep Black Cat" is an illustration-style depiction of a cat with a coat color that is more popular than white.
"Kiwi" has a body type that suits kokeshi dolls, but in Japan it can only be found at the Osaka Zoo.
I took on the challenge of drawing "Tibetan foxes" and "shoebills" at the request of people who liked their very unique appearances.
I created all of them using my own original drawing methods that I had not learned from anyone.
